Social & Solidarity Economy

What challenges did this initiative look to address?

The territory concerned (Dombes, Val de Saône, Cotière de l'Ain - France) is populated by more than 75 000 inhabitants divided between rural areas in the process of desertification and areas of old urbanization. The challenge is to promote a more homogenous development of the territory by combining the strengths of the different zones as well as the transfer of successes from one zone to another. Domb Innov starts from the needs of the inhabitants for the development of services, the creation of sustainable jobs, the insertion and professionalization, as well as the awareness of a new approach to the economy and entrepreneurship. To promote collective intelligence, it has organized the festival "economy of the 3rd type" since 2008, highlighting emerging initiatives, ideas and new projects to fuel the development of the activities of PTCE and of its partners.

What has changed?

Local authorities support the development of Domb'Innov including the grant of specific projects, with emergence of projects of social utility, the Regional Council supports the animation of this dynamic by recognizing the benefits of cooperation for local development. Volunteering is also a form of citizen engagement that allows the development of the Economic Cooperation Center. An example of this is La Recyclerie de Trévoux, a recycling activity (sale in the store, furniture customization workshop, bicycle repair which will be handed over on sale, etc.) on a voluntary basis.

How did it happen?

Some communities also participate in the PTCE working groups. They provide valuable additional analysis for the development of certain projects. In return, the actors of the PTCE contribute to the working groups of the communities around the economic development allowing the sharing of the analyzes of the needs and the solutions on the territory.

By encouraging economic activities, creating jobs and social ties in its territories, Domb’Innov demonstrates the relevance of the PTCE model for a successful relationship among communities, citizens, businesses and other local partners.
