Planbude Hamburg
PlanBude (Planning Shack) is a transdisciplinary office that organizes the planning process for the ensemble of the former ESSO-Häuser (ESSO houses) on Reeperbahn, St. Pauli, Hamburg. The idea of PlanBude as an independent facilitator of a credible bottom-up planning process was kicked off by a citizens’ assembly in 2014, and their commissioning later agreed on by the city administration, the local parliament and the private owners. From their office in a container, situated directly at the construction site, PlanBude started a unique participatory process called Wunschproduktion (wish production). Innovative tools ensured accessibility for and contributions by everybody to the complex planning process. The “St. Pauli Code” as a condensed result of this process then built the briefing for the architectural competition.
