BIP-ZIP
The program BIP-ZIP (Bairros e Zonas de Intervenção Prioritária / Neighbourhoods and Areas of Priority Intervention) was launched in 2011 by the Lisbon municipality. BIP-ZIP is a non-bureaucratic participatory budgeting model that invites citizens themselves to develop and implement actions in the neighbourhoods that reinforce the social and territorial cohesion of the Lisbon municipality. The range of these future-oriented solutions includes ideas related to the improvement of the appearance of the neighbourhood, the creation of community services and activities, restoration, re-zoning and occupancy of public space, political education, the promotion of active citizenship.
