Casa Meteca is a project to create a participative hostel for paying and non-paying travellers, that becomes a place of solidary cohabitation outside the processes of tourist gentrification. This initiative provides an alternative to the neoliberal model and the gentrification processes taking place in Marseille, both for local residents and migrants seeking refuge.

Marseille has recently been the object of real estate speculation, sometimes even promoted by the local government. This has especially hit the old center of the City and has had a significant effect on the low- and middle-income residents in the area.

At the same time, Marseille has been both a transit point and a destination for many travelers and people migrating into Europe. These people are usually highly vulnerable and are the first victims of gentrification processes like the one taking place in Marseille.
